Solar power inverter

The plus points of using solar energy for running our appliances for our everyday living greatly outnumbers the conventional method of using the electricity. Using solar energy has not only proved to be beneficial for the environment and helping sustain life on the planet, but it also given us benefits in terms of savings.

By using the clean renewable source of energy you do not have to pay anything. Thus you are reducing your electricity costs. Additionally you can sell your power that you are not using back to the utility company and get paid in return. It is heartening that such positive approaches are being implemented for the increased use of solar power.

The process of harnessing the sun's energy to produce power for your entire household consists of photovoltaic cells that are used to capture the sun's energy. These photovoltaic materials comprise of negative and positive elements such as silicon which produces reaction when exposed to the sun. When the light rays of the sun hit the photovoltaic cells, it cuts off the ions which have negative charge.

This energy is captured in small wires which are connected to a solar inverter to form an electric current. The solar inverter is used for converting the negative energy into a source of power which is fit for use. Initially the cost of solar units was an expensive affair but now there are affordable and efficient ways to generate solar energy for our daily consumption. Nowadays these systems do not require any maintenance at all and can last for several years.

There cannot be a better way of increasing the awareness and urging people to use the useful source of the sun than by passing laws which offer tax rebates for solar installations. Most of the laws have started on a new concept known as net metering. Net metering is a system where you sell back the unused power to your utility company at the same rate that you are charged when you use their power.

In this system you can feed the solar power into the utility grid during daytime and use the regular energy during nightfall. This helps to make your utility meter run backwards and you can reduce your electricity costs to a large extent.

You can even build your own solar unit at home with materials that are easily available at your local electrical store. All that you need is to buy a solar panel of about 12 to 16 volts, a 12 volt battery with a deep cycle, a gel or an acid battery. A deep cycle battery lasts for a longer duration. A protective box is needed for ensuring safety to the batteries and a 12 volt DC meter is also required along with a DC input. You can use this system for powering small DC devices such as your laptops.

If you want to run your AC devices then you would need a solar inverter which will help to convert the DC current that is generated into AC current. The solar inverter can be purchased from any automotive store but you need to be aware how much power you need before you set out to purchase your solar inverter.

Then you need to connect your DC input containing the meter to the battery box and attach it with good quality insulated wires. Make sure you connect the negative poles first. Once everything is wired all that you have to do is shut it and place it out in the sun to start out on your work of capturing the solar energy.

It is important to keep your solar panels in the direction of the sun so that it receives maximum sunlight from one direction and is not shaded with buildings and trees in the surroundings.
